It’s a NO from me…
There’s 3 certainties in life.
Death, taxes and having to do chores around the house.
Vacuuming, dusting, doing the dishes, washing clothes and cleaning in general are the worst jobs ever.
I’ll throw weeding in there too. Yuk
Don’t get me wrong. I’m a neat freak and my house is very well kept. There’s no clutter, everything has its place and I can admit I do have a bit of OCD.
But I can’t stand the thought of performing the above mentioned tasks let alone actually doing them. They are so mundane.
For all you guys that get a kick out of cleaning and doing all of these jobs I salute you! You have my respect.
Although I must admit I do worry about you a little. You must be a tad crazy if you like performing these boring chores.
However I can see the positive in cleaning and having daily chores ticked off the list and the satisfaction that comes with it once they’re done.
There’s something about having a sparkling clean kitchen to walk into or a freshly vacuumed house, admiring your well manicured lawn or jumping into a spotlessly clean shower or my fav…. hopping into bed with freshly washed bed sheets! Is that not the best feeling in the world?
I think it’s more the satisfaction of having these jobs done more so than the task itself that excites me. Dunno if I’m in the minority there but I’ll just keep doing me.
I feel like once the dishes are all packed away and the washing has been hung out my whole life is in order and I can return to being back on track and in control.
The other day I was changing my bed sheets and covers and clearly wasn’t happy about it but the angel voice in my head convinced the devil voice on this particular occasion to get off my arse and do it.
Let me just say it takes me a while to put a doona cover on. Trying to hold the corners and shake it so it’s all neat and not scrunched up at one end is a bloody nightmare. I never know which end to start with and end up having a few cracks at it before I get it right.
I struggle at times I admit.
Anyway as I got closer to finishing setting up my bed I started to get this overwhelming sense of excitement and achievement as I was about to complete a task I really didn’t want to do.
It then reminded me it’s the same feeling I get when I’m not motivated to train but the feeling after it’s done is what gets me through.
Sometimes the thought of training doesn’t interest me at all. However I know the feeling I’m gonna get once I’ve completed the task.
That overwhelming sense of achievement and the positivity of knowing I’ve done something to better myself is more than enough to motivate me to get it done.
And to be honest if I had a choice to do housework or train, training wins hands down.
The comparisons between household chores and exercise are actually very similar when you think about it.
Both require effort and energy. Both involve some tasks you enjoy and some you don’t (although I must admit I don’t enjoy any household tasks. I do them purely out of necessity). Both require attention every day. The longer you leave both the harder they get. Both are very important to health and well-being. Both are very satisfying once completed.
Although there is one difference.
If you really want you can get a cleaner to do your chores for you. However the same can’t be said about your exercise so you have no choice but to pull your finger out.
