R U OK?
This topic came up the other day at work between staff members & funnily enough, most of us are NOT ok & dismiss the topic with the general “I’m fine”. Which basically means you are totally “not fine”.
Working in the health & fitness industry a lot of people expect us to always be up & about. They rely on us to lift them up when they need & often use us an outlet to help them get through tough times & to push them when they can’t push themselves!
I absolutely LOVE this about my job, that I am able to help people not only with their health & fitness journeys but also with their life as a whole.
However, the down side of this is that I very rarely (ok, never!) give myself the same time & love. I know it’s the way of the world at the moment to grind your life away chasing the dollar & pretending that everything is ok because otherwise it’s labelled as weakness! BUTTT it’s amazing how much more productive & happier people are when they feel supported & can get things off their chest to help them move forward. The saying is so true that you become a ‘product of your environment.’ Happiness breeds happiness. Negativity breeds negativity!
I am very conscious now that my health & happiness is JUST as important as that of the people around me, if not more important. You can’t run a car off no fuel, so how do you expect to help people when you don’t make the effort to help yourself?!
It’s ok not to be ok & its ok to ask for help sometimes. It’s definitely not WEAK & it’s definitely nothing to be ashamed of. The world is absolutely crazy at the moment & I think this is because of all the pressure society puts on us to be at our BEST, always! No room for error, no room for being vulnerable & of course no room for being weak. Yet, it’s funny because by not talking about our problems, we actually create much bigger problems down the track & we lose our capability to ‘cope’ with things.
If you are someone that is feeling down, or you are stressed, need some guidance or just need to feel supported – this is your WAKE UP CALL! Take some time out of your day for yourself to deal with whatever is going on & to heal & move forward.
For me personally, I stress over the most stupid little things. Yet all of these stupid little things build up because I keep them bottled up inside & then one day absolutely crack! It is so important for me to accept these stupid little things when they arise, figure out how to deal with them & then move on. All it takes is 15 minutes a day. 15 minutes to yourself to deal with your shit! If you have longer, great! But, no more excuses that you ‘don’t have time’ to ask yourself if you are ok! It’s 15 bloody minutes & trust me, it will make the WORLD of difference in your daily life & the peoples lives around you if you are happier & more relaxed.
So, R U OK?
