Must have said something funny…
Caught up with da boyyyyyyz over the weekend. 5 of us. We’ve been really close mates for ages and formed an inseparable bond through our successful footy days way back when.
Now that most of us are too old to even get out of bed some mornings let alone kick a footy around we keep in touch weekly through a group chat and have a bit of fun organising catch-ups when our busy lives allow us to.
One thing is for sure… Laughing until I cry when I’m with these guys is a $1.01 chance of happening.
It’s funny because I don’t actually know what we talk about… it’s just a whole heap of shit really, but I guess it’s when we start reminiscing it brings back a lot of fun times.
You see, they’re my mates because we have a lot in common.
We obviously love sport so there’s an automatic link there. They’re also extremely funny and don’t take life too seriously (We take the piss out of each other constantly). At the same time they’re humble. They’re caring. They’re considerate. They’re family men. They’re fit. They’re healthy. They’re positive. They’re loyal. They’re decent human beings. And they’re dickheads sometimes. But so am I so it’s all good!
Together we’ve laughed, cried, argued, hugged it out, celebrated, got drunk, got into trouble, and managed to get ourselves into situations you’re more likely to see on episodes of ‘the inbetweeners.’
When I think about it there’s a piece of all of them that makes up who I am and vice versa. It makes sense too.
It’s been said we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with.
I couldn’t agree more! I’m like my mates. They’re like me. This is why it’s important to surround yourselves with like minded people because it could actually determine the trajectory of your life, the decisions you make and your level of success.
If you relate this back to your own health and fitness goals, ask yourself if you’re surrounded by people who are constantly supporting you, encouraging you and understand why it’s important to you.
Ultimately these people will naturally pop up in your life because you’ll be attracted to the same things and therefore the same people.
On the flip side, ask yourself if there’s people in your life who’s values don’t fall into line with yours. These people can be toxic. In my humble opinion get rid of them!
My job is to help people see this and one of the main reasons IFP was created was to help facilitate like minded people reach their goals and do it in a place they feel comfortable in. Remember even though our individual goals may vary we are all in this together. Surrounding yourself with like minded people will just ensure you have a lot of fun doing it. So here’s a big cheers to my mates!
